A Dirty Business - Review
This book had our FMC, Jess, dealing with a dilemma that I think most of our dark romance loving girlies would have looked over. She has that darn moral compass going for her. She couldn't reconcile her morality with the profession that her man was doing so of course this led to things being dragged on for awhile while she fought her attraction to him and he to her. It like literally was 80% of the book. They were waffling the whole time with whether they were going to get together despite Jess being a PO and Trace being a criminal. This was kinda annoying for a bit. Though I will say that nothing probably annoyed me more than the randomness of some of the things that happened. It just felt like there was no real thing that the characters had to defeat to get together but rather there were many little things that popped up. Like the betrayal that happens to Jess near the end, her best friend moving out, deciding whether Trace was worth it despite her being a cop, Trace and his uncle, Trace taking over the family business and the people moving into the territory etc, like I could go on. It was weird seeing all these little things that kept being an issue. It kinda left you on a roller coaster that I wanted to get off of after awhile. Then the ending. The ending was honestly probably the best thing. I mean I hate a cliff hangar but I was left with my mouth open after reading the Epilogue. I was shocked that it ended that way. There felt like there was no resolution to that. I mean you can't just drop a bomb like that and then have the characters not react to what happened. It seemed like a big something since it was something that seemed very important for most of the book. I'm not sure if this is going to tie into things later in one of the other books but that was seriously a wild ending.
As for the spice. It was honestly meh. The characters spent most of the book trying to not be together. Definite 2 out of 5. I could have almost done without it even though it was kind of frustrating waiting for it to happen. The waffling of the characters just made me not interested by the time it did happen. Overall I give this book a 3. It was ok. I probably would say to read it as a filler book if you just need something to read. It's really just for the ending. That ending was crazy.
