Parental Drama

This book is the first in a series for the Ardelean Wolves and it is a slower paced book than I'm used to. It's heavily plot driven without letting that stop you from enjoying the book. There is spice in this book but it definitely takes a back seat to everything else happening.  We have Thalia whose life is being threatened because of a political stance by her mother. She had her whole life uprooted as she is protected by Cade, a former military man. We get a front seat to seeing how she starts to fall for Cade but insecurities are rampant in her mind. She feels that they are later validated when she finds out that one again politics is taking advantage of her life. It's not enough to stop the feelings that she's grown to have for Cade and they eventually get back together. I liked Thalia and could relate to her when it came to having insecurities about yourself despite what others may say. Her thirst for knowledge and her ability to accept people even though they are different was a very nice thing to read. It's easy to love both of these characters since we also get to see things from Cades POV. With a lot of responsibility thrown in him,  he just wanted to live his life the way he wanted but when things started to new brought to his attention he realized that he couldn't hide from his duties anymore. I think any oldest child can relate to this. That feeling of responsibility you have for your younger siblings.
I have this book a 4 out of 5 because I liked the plot of the book. I liked getting to see both sides of these two characters. It did run on a little bit but it does allow you just a little bit more insight to Cade and Thalia. The spice was definitely there.  It might not have been panty melting hot but it was nice.  I'd give it a 3 out of 5. Overall I'd recommend this book to anyone who needs to place slow down or just wants time to really take in this world and all it has to offer!! I look forward to learning more in Haze with Lena!
