Painted Scars- Review

It's not often that we run into a MMC who isn't the standard of perfection that we're used to reading about. In Painted Scars, that is not the case. Roman, is a Russian Pakhan who has been damaged due to his way of life. Organized crime always has a way of leaving scars and too often characters manage to miraculously escape situations that they shouldn't. So seeing how Roman managed to deal with having a permanent injury without spreading weak, was a great way to show this. Having this injury didn't make him less masculine, imposing or attractive. I liked that the author allowed us to see this along with also seeing his insecurities about it. Too often men are made to believe that they can't feel emotions unless they serve a purpose. Here we see Roman baring himself to Nina in a beautiful way. I liked their love story and how they managed to accept each other even though it was a little hard for them both. Though I will say, they didn't really have a lot of interaction with each other and their romance is purely fueled from lust, they still managed to fall for each other entirely.
There is a little bit of spice in this book. The scenes are very short though. Like 1 paragraph type short. I laughed when Nina even commented on how fast it went by. I give this a 3 out of 5 on the spicy scale. It's definitely there and happens but it's super short and isn't too spicy. Overall I gave this book a 3 out of 5. I'd recommend this as an entry to mafia romance. It's not too dark and not too graphically spicy.
