A Touch of Darkness - Review

This book was better than I had anticipated. With a series such as this one, that has been out for awhile and has a following, there are a lot of things that you hear when you are looking for recommendations for books. Us book lovers tend to be harsh on some books and series and unfortunately this was one of them. I heard a lot of either hating or loving the characters in this series. I for one managed to like almost everyone. Of course those that aren't meant to be liked don't count. The lore through out this book was enough for my Mythology loving heart to gorge on while the plot itself was something I could enjoy and get plenty of laughs at. I love it when books make me have out loud emotions or make me want to hop on social media and post about it right then and there. I feel like that is what an author should aim for when writing. Make me FEEL something when I read your characters. Whether it's strong dislike or deep friendship and love for them. I deeply wanted to smack Persephone on the head a few times. While wanting to love Hades. It's been awhile since a story has made me like the MMC more than the FMC. While I still definitely like Persephone, I really felt for Hades. He truly lived by the line of not clearing up rumors. Let people think what they want to think, they are going to do it anyway. His approach to things is probably how I would feel as a god. Meanwhile we have the opposite to be said of Demeter, who took, protective mom to the extreme. She is definitely one of the characters that I felt a strong dislike for. I definitely think that we have not seen the last of her in this series, nor have we seen the last of some of the other "bad guys" that we met in this first book. I really look forward to continuing this series. I do think that I am going to continue with the suggested reading order which will take us on the journey with Hades next instead of Persephone.

The spice in this book was pretty good. I did listen to the audio version and I think the narrator did a good job. Even though I have a gripe with reading books with just one narrator...I get it....I guess. I hope the Game series will be done mainly by a male narrator since this series that is told from Persephone's POV is done by a female voice actor. I would give the spice in this book a 4 out of 5. Overall I would also give this book a 4 out of 5. I enjoyed the story and I felt the things. I nearly put up a premature post due to Persephone's actions at one point. I had to backtrack since she rectified her error. I think anyone who really enjoys Mythology will like this book. I would definitely recommend it!
