It Ruins Me - Review
I'm not gonna lie to you....this book frustrated me to no end. Scarlet has been a thorn in my side since the end of book 1. Like....I guess this is how people are able to be easily manipulated but this book really just upset me to another level. Firstly, Scarlet was raised in this life by her father and at no point did she think that she shouldn't be there. She always seemed to fight to be the best and want it. So you would think that she would know a little about fighting and the dangers that would come in this world. Not to mention how men tended to barter women around like they are currency. So the fact that she was completely blind for 3 whole books just about, to her fathers machinations was a little wild to me. Like no one said anything to her, she didn't have a mind of her own to come to this conclusion and it was just anger inducing. Then to add fuel to the fire she then, in this book, is like, oh no, I came too close to death, I want out. Likeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, you're father is a gangster who you thought you were going to take over for and you THOUGHT there would be no death involved????? I'm so confused on how she arrived at this thought that at the first sign of hardship she instantly just quit. That more than anything should have proven to her father that she didn't have the balls for this. It annoyed me that she pretended like she did. THEN she makes her husband quit the business?! Like you fell for him in that world and being that person yet NOW you want him to quit???? That is my most hated thing in mafia romances. Is when the woman tries to make the man change. You met him as this and you want him to quit and bake bread or something? Like things aren't that easy when you're someone that heavily involved in that life. It would take a lot to retire safely and not have some kind of foot in the door of that world. Needless to say, I was NOT a Scarlet fan. Matter of fact, when Axel told her off, I was right there rooting for him! I'm so glad that he made her sit in the shit that she made and realize that he's worth more. I hate that he went back to her without her groveling more. He deserved her to grovel more. Heck, Axel deserved a lot more than what he got in this book. Sure most people came around in the end but it was still annoying that he had to even deal with it. Her father was trash until the end, his parents were trash until the end and even Scarlet was a lot of bit trash. Team Axel all day.
The spice in this book was ok. My dislike of Scarlet made it hard for me to enjoy her enjoying Axel. I wanted to physically shake her more than once. I give the spice a 3 out of 5. Overall. I have no intentions of continuing with Theo's story. I am overly done with this world. I really just wanted to complete the trilogy of Scarlet and Axel. I would need to give myself a shake if I continue and there is another woman who decides to make her man quit what he's doing to be a carpenter or something crazy. I like my men bad and I like their women to like them that way. I think if you're looking for a book where you end up rooting for the guy then this trilogy is definitely where it's at. Maybe you enjoy the man changing from a rough man to a family guy in the most basic of ways. This would be your book.
