The Butcher of the Bay Part 2 - Review
This book was longer than it needed to be. It actually felt like this could have been one long book and just didn't need a part 2. The fact that the story is still not technically complete yet the duology is over is a little annoying. I don't like when books do that. Though I guess now, everything is under the Mounts Bay umbrella with the next few books. Though the main characters aren't the same. I have to endure a bully romance just to get to the full conclusion for Illi and Odie. Other than that, it was an ok read. Things really felt drawn out. Odie is found relatively quickly and there isn't much damage done to her. So the rest of the book is really just Illi going around trying to get people which while satisfying was just not enough material to keep everything interesting. I know that the full conclusion for Illi and Odie is indeed going to affect The Wolf, who is the main character of the next few books but man, I wish it was like a time overlap type of deal. Where we still get the conclusion for them but then we also get to see it play out from her perspective. That would have been nice.
The spice in this book was nice. Seeing Odie embrace herself again after all that she has been through was nice. I give the spice a 4 out of 5. Overall, this book was very lackluster to me. There really wasn't much going on after Odie was retrieved. Since it happened so quickly, there was really only fluff for the remainder of the book. This would have been better if it was just one book. Then the fact that this is a full series with the other books would feel better. I am going to read those books, because I just have to know what the heck and how the heck they are going to get D'Ardo. I don't know about recommending this second book. You don't have to reach very far to get to the conclusion with how she is saved and the rest you can just imagine. It probably gets covered again in The Wolf's book.
