A Kingdom of Blood and Magic - Review

I went into this one with the expectation that there would be little to no spice.  I really appreciate that the author kinda keys you know in the beginning that there wasn't going to be any, instead of getting surprised later. However there was a lot of heavy petting that I can't wait to come to fruition. In this book we meet Mareina and I really liked her. Strong FMCs are always a W in my book. She still has her moments where she was soft but it was only to those who deserved it. Another big W. She was a well balanced character in my opinion. The MMCs were a well. I like Nakoa and Malakei, even though we didn't get much of Malakei. I hope we see more of him in book 2. I'm very split on how I feel about the two of the MMCs. Nakoa seems like the hero that would sacrifice his love for the world, while Malakei is the opposite. Nakoa understands coming from nothing and struggling to be better while Malakei seems like he could be a rule follower that judges. They both have qualities that I wish the other had and vice versa. It'll be interesting to see how things work out with these three in the next book!! Outside of them though is the story of Nakoa and Mareina's parents that seems to be a very big focal point of the story. We've gotten pieces of Mareina's parents story so I'm very interested in where Nakoa's story will take us. How will this shape them getting together and the kingdom they seek to rule. My girl Mareina really just wanna chill and be happy with her man,  meanwhile chaos is ensuing and forcing them to be active in the events of the realms. So much interesting things going on.

As I said there wasn't really any spice in this other than the heavy petting so I'm going to give this a 2 out of 5 for spice. Overall I enjoyed the story and look forward to going back to this world with these characters in book 2. I give it a 4 or of 5! The intrigue and parental drama definitely took the cake here. It's almost now interesting than what's going on with our MCs! I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys strong FMCs, fated mates,  fantasy worlds and little intrigue. Definitely pick this up so we can scream during book 2 together!!
