You Shouldn't Have Come Here - Review
So this book is totally different from what I normally read, I decided to pick it up for a book club that I've joined. Nothing against this author but this is just not a favorite genre of mine. I always find myself looking at the characters like...are you stupid! Not to mention it's really hard to write non spoiler reviews for books like this since I don't want to give away anything. So I'm going to do my best to not spoil. This book is about a woman who (for some strange reason) went to an AirBNB in a random town in the middle of no where that was owned by a man. Ok, pause, this was my first what the heck moment. It happened in literally one chapter. I couldn't believe that a woman would be out here going to an AirBNB on her own, to a random town, that's owned by a random man. I know that this probably is something that happens more often then I think but......this man literally lived in the house WITH her. This man is named Calvin. He lives in this small town where everyone knows everyone. He has a very dark past apparently as well. Enter the rest of this town and you have a recipe for a huge wtf. After finishing this book. I realized all the little hints that were left for us like bread crumbs about what was really about to happen. This book has dual POV's so you get to see things from Calvin's perspective as well as Grace's perspective. It does make things interesting because you don't know who to suspect. There are a lot of people who make themselves look very suspicious in this book. Of course once you find out what really is going on it is like...oh wow. There was a lot of different ideas in the book club on what was going to happen and MAAANNNN, no one is right so far. I will say that I had to borrow this book on Libby so I had to read it relatively quick. The book club is still reading this book at the moment of course but I manage to finish.
I can say that by the end of the book I definitely felt a little unsatisfied because...I feel like I still had questions that weren't answered by the end of the book. They are all quite spoilery so I'll wait til my book club is done so we can discuss. I will say that I didn't suspect the person who we finally finds out is behind everything. Not to mention the last chapter or two. I was like what the heck is going on here! How often does this stuff happen? How are they going to introduce this topic to the other person who they are thinking of recruiting...like...how does one just start doing this? Overall I definitely think that the suspense genre is not my cup of tea however this book still wasn't too bad. I would give it a 3 out of 5. There is like 1 spicy scene but I don't think it's worth rating that sense this is not the genre for my usual spice ratings. I do think that someone who usually reads this genre might find it interesting. There is nothing really scary about this book it's fully suspense with not a lot of thriller stuff happening. As always, this is only my opinion and I always think that you should read the book for yourself!
