We Who Will Die - Review

Ok...so this one was a little hard for me to rate but let me explain. There are things that I liked about this book. I really enjoyed the some of the fights, getting the background on characters and relationships, the world is definitely interesting. With the vampires, magical creatures and the different powers that everyone has. It is all definitely interesting and is part of what kept me going in this story. I wanted to see how Arvelle was going to accomplish her task and who was going to help her get there. Then we end up stumbling through a lot of things. That just felt like a quagmire to get through. I didn't care for how long it took us to get through everything. I don't mean the length of the book either. I mean, that when we would get into scenes things just felt rough. Like I was wading in like thick oil instead of water. It didn't flow well for me. I found myself constantly taking breaks and getting distracted by other things but I just didn't wanna read through another slug fest of dialogue that felt like it didn't really matter. This is not normally how I feel when reading from this author so I was very surprised. Not only that but the way we see the relationship between two of the characters unfold really made me not completely want their relationship to continue. I was actually feeling another character for her. We actually get to see in real time, their relationship develop. At this point I'd be ok with a thruple situation. Then there is the fact that it didn't really feel like Arvelle grew. There are small glimpses but otherwise the wins that she does get don't really feel like real payoffs when you put it against her Ls. Which just added to the feeling of having to plow through this to read it.

The spice in this book was ok. Again because we don't really see these characters relationship develop for real, it just doesn't really feel like a payoff when we do get it. Also the scenes just felt kinda thrown in. Not that they were out of place but more so that they just felt lackluster. I wanted a little bit more mmph from people who are literally fighting for their lives on the daily. I gave the spice a 3 out of 5. Overall, I didn't dislike this story but it was more of a meh for me. I definitely want it to feel more cohesive and not like we got stuck in certain points. I have read a lot of this authors other series so I know she can do it. That is what is going to keep me with this series and the fact that I am super curious about if this is going to turn into a thruple. It almost feels like ACOTAR with how we wanted one couple in book 1 but things completely changed in book 2 and the new couple is better. I actually wouldn't be surprised if that happened either. If you enjoy books that are thick and the FMC has to work for everything that she gets then this is definitely the book for you!
