A Wicked Dance of Obsidian and Light - ARC Review

This was the second book that I read after getting out of my reading slump and I liked it! There were moments when I was looking at Iris with a side eye but she pulled through in the end! Iris is our FMC and she is member of an organization that is out to get rid of any unruly demons that they find. Of course most of this group think in absolutes, like so many in these types of organizations do. Of course with groups like this, that leads to complications down the line when you end up finding someone who shakes your foundational beliefs. Enter Kaiden, the leader of the opposition group of demons. Together these two organizations are supposed to keep the humans safe from demons who step out of line. So what happens when the creature that you have been raised to hate and to believe can only be evil...aren't. Not only that but they make your heart race? This is the dilemma that Iris is facing after being saved by Kaiden. These types of plots usually are kind of annoying, especially when the person who holds these beliefs doesn't seem to want to change that thought process, despite all the things that are being placed in front of them that refute this. Not only that but there are some other things that are starting to not add up and instead of taking these things into account, blind allegiance is given. Which almost makes things sound like a cult....but I digress. Slowly but surely, Iris is having her eyes opened. I love someone who is willing to learn from harmful though processes but I can tell that things are about to get really rough for poor Iris.

There was not really any spice in this book. No one hits a home run in this book except for random characters in the background that we don't really care about. So that was definitely a negative. I give the spice a 1 out of 5. Overall I liked this book. There were moments when I felt like Iris was behaving a little childish but I let it go. There are a lot of things that was sprinkled here and there as bread crumbs that I'm eager to explore more to see where they lead. I give this book a 3 out of 5. I think anyone who is looking for a slower paced fantasy book would like this. It definitely is something that can be read by those who don't really enjoy too much spice and lot more story.
