Gild - Review

I've decided to start another series re-read! This one has unraveled slower than I remember it happening when I originally read it. I think if just this book was out and I didn't have the others to dive into immediately, then I would have probably put this one down and now come back to it. I say that because this world and everything in it takes awhile to develop. The characters, are written well enough that it doesn't really take you long to latch onto them. When they go away you definitely miss their presence. Even the ones that we aren't meant to like, you remember them. Even if some of them we never will get a chance to like, you kinda understand why they feel the way they do. Just from the moments that they interact with our FMC. In this book we really only get things from Auren's POV. We get one small chapter of Midas but otherwise it's all her. The world is a little sad when viewed through her lens.I definitely want more for her. You can definitely see why this book has a dark cover, since we are in Auren's head that is how the world appears to her. It is quite sad. Us as the viewer can see the manipulation that Midas is using on poor Auren and really, I just want to scream at her. But when someone puts you in such a cage as the one she is in, it's hard to break out of it and see your jailer for who they are. When you see that Midas was able to take himself from a normal person to a King and how he treats Auren....I promise I wanted to hit this man.

There is spicy things that occur in this book. Most of it doesn't happen to Auren...it happens while she's present. I would give the spice in this book a 2 out of 5. Simply because smex does happen ...Auren does have it...but it was more of a sad moment than a happy one. I mean she's literally crying...no worries though, it's not assault. Overall, this was a very slow read. I think by itself this book was ok. It definitely is an introduction book. It's laying the foundation for what's to come in the next books because there wasn't really that much excitement or wow moments in this one. There is a lot of information being dropped about the world, the characters and how they all fit together. I would recommend this to anyone who is more focused on the fantasy story than on the romance. That's just for this book though. I know it picks up later.
