Taming Kane - Review
Since this review will not be posted to my socials, this will have spoilers. I did not really like this book. It was doing too much yet not enough at the same time. It felt like things were just happening and everyone was ok with it. Like, there was no chance to take anything in, everyone just accepted everything. Then there was agreements over silly things. It felt to me like the author hadn't really read any other shifter type novels before they wrote this one. Maybe this is their first shifter novel? For example, Kane felt very disconnected from his wolf. I have read books where the wolf and the man are separate entities living in one body with almost one mind, as well as books where they couldn't separate the two mentally from each other. When Kane allowed his wolf out to play with Tammy, it just felt like he was out of control and she was truly around a wild wolf. Not to mention her reaction was....interesting. I mean she yelled at the wolf. A lot of her reactions were...not normal. I think a lot of that just turned me off to the story. It felt like the author was writing a parody where they were more so making fun of what they were writing as opposed to having fun and enjoying it.
As for the spice. It was there. They did the thing but I was not invested in it. I mean, it just really felt awkward to me. By awkward, I mean cringe. Like when they were talking to each other I was just sitting there smiling with teeth in a terrified way. I give it a 3 out of 5 for spice because it was there and it happened often. It wasn't enjoyable though, imo. I didn't like the words used and I was cringing when they were talking to each other. Overall I didn't like this book. The FMC felt like she had no agency. Like she didn't want to do anything besides have sex with Kane and let him do everything. I mean this sounds nice but it didn't even sound like she did sudoku or watched tv, read a book. LIVED outside of her interactions around him. She didn't really complain about it and was content to end up pregnant with the baby of a man she met 2 seconds ago. It just...was not my cup of tea. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't rec this book to anyone. Any shifter lovers would be upset with this book so unsure. As always, check this book out for yourself and let me know what you think about it!
