Weres and Witchery - ARC Review

 This was the perfect holiday read! Everything felt perfect for the theme! The small town was doing it's thang, the paranormal was definitely present in this one as well. All things that I enjoy. I liked the story between Jena and Chase. I also really liked the side characters! Aggie, loved her!! Felix, I'd like another helping please! One thing about this author, is she can write some super interesting side characters! They really are amazing. I became so invested in them that now, I must beg for Felix to get a story. I'd even be interested in more of the Eastside characters! I love getting sucked into a world where I can be immersed and just love everything about it. My only negative, is that I felt like Jena and Chase were side characters in this story. I enjoyed getting to see them interact with the side characters more than I was interested in what they had going on. Jena, was interesting but not as interesting as Aggie. Chase did not give me any kind of alpha vibes and I almost didn't believe him when he said he'd reign hell on the people who wronged him. He definitely was giving vibes of a chill person who just has a big mouth but was just that...a big mouth. When he says he doesn't want to lead, I definitely believed him. As for everything else, I really liked how the lore in the world is built and I also liked the potential that this has. Maybe there will be more in Havers-By-The Sea for us?

As for the spice...it was ok. I guess because I didn't really believe in the main characters, the spice didn't really hit for me. There is two scenes in this book and I was almost upset for Jena during the first. She gave into Chase very easily there. I definitely thought that she was going to hold out a little longer on him given the circumstances. The second one just felt out of place. Like they were supposed to be in a rush to get somewhere but they had time to have their reunion and then some other things that happened. I guess it wouldn't have been as noticeable if the time crunch wasn't such a big deal. I give the spice a solid 3 out of 5. Overall, I enjoyed the read and would recommend it to others who would enjoy a book to get them into the vibes of the season. The characters are interesting and the paranormal is definitely making itself known with the witches, shifters and faery vibes.

 The next series that I decided to take on in my re-read sessions was the Wolf Hotel series by KA Tucker. This series was one that I devoured when I originally read it so I wanted to see if it still hit the same as then! This first book definitely has taken advantage of the naive virgin trope and really let it go full tilt. We meet Abbi as she is going through one of the worst moments in her life.  This book....whew. So, let me start with the things that I enjoyed. I liked the world set up. Even though things are heavily skewed in the favor of the vampires, there is still a lot of cool lore in this book. The Godstars and the craters, the magic system and runes, everything was laid out nicely for us. The way that the King of Dawn and Dusk were set up was also a nice different thing that what I was used to. Now, let's jump into some peeves. I don't really care for extreme power imbalances and this one is extreme. From the fact that Nessa starts out completely powerless to where she ends up in the end of the book. I could almost scream at how frustrating this is. I mean, the back and forth that she has in her mind where she is just all about sharing her body with them but also morally disliking them was low key exhausting. I felt for her but also girl what?   Wow. I almost don't know how to feel after reading this book. I mean Gideon and Ava are definitely running me through the emotional ringer with this one. I mean they are constantly on a roller coaster themselves! One day they are madly happy then the next day they are close to hating each other. Most of it honestly, is communication. They both have bad communication skills honestly. They feed each others hurt. Yet they are great when they are great. I mean there is a scene in this book where it's almost picture perfection. Then we get instances when one lashes out subconsciously at the other. The issue stemming from the fact that one is very close lipped about something. Which by the end of the book, it makes sense....my LORD, was I stressed while reading this. The amount of times that I stopped and just yelled at one of the other about what the heck they had going on. Like my goodness! I almost don't even know how we got to where we did by the end.
