Bespelled - Review

Image
This was another great entry in this series!! I loved everything about it, even though we had to go through some rough times to get to that ending, it was pretty fantastic! I enjoyed watching Memnon try to get back to Selene. I loved watching her fight to keep him at arms length and then eventually give into him. I however did not enjoy how often he was playing the baywatch king. He was never really there when she needed him to be and had to constantly be "on his way" . Is there not a teleportation spell? I mean, he's an all powerful sorcerer and he can't get to her quicker than he is. I mean, I guess we had to find a way for Selene to fight these battles on her own but LORD. The frustration was very high. Other than that I don't really have any complaints about anything that happened in this book. It was very enjoyable all the way around. Though the ending was a little...annoying. I don't want to spoil what happens but seriously? This is what ya'll chose...

Voodoo Doll - ARC Review

Image
This was a short and dark read about a priest who found a woman and just couldn't let her go. Let me tell you, the way things unfolded in this book was...different. It also kinda went from 0 to 100 real quick. Which, I guess....it's a novella but even I got whiplash from how fast it picked up. Things were going slowly and I almost felt like Bash didn't really like his familiar...which is an interesting choice. I was also hoping that there was going to be more of a the FMC turning to the MMC's side. Instead he kinda used his power to manipulate her. Which was kinda...meh. I liked everything else about this book except how the "relationship" developed. It just felt like it was fully manipulated instead of something that built or even insta love. It was just...different. It also felt kind of weird to me since there is already a bad connotation with Voodoo and now we have this guy who took a woman who pretty much used his power to make her feel something for him....

Rogue Games - Review

Image
This book was a lot less spicier than I thought it was going to be. There were definitely moments when I thought that things would happen because ya know...shifters. It's definitely a slow burn though. There were times when I wanted to shake some sense into Jamie for sure. She was working with the tough girl persona but didn't really have it took to back it up. Then to say that the fated mates thing was something that all shifters were looking forward to, these two definitely fought against it like their lives depended on it. I could kind of understand but it did go on a little longer than I thought it would. The games were very interesting and I wish we got the opportunity to see more of it. Though I do think that we just might when we get the second book. The story that unraveled with the Reynolds pack and their mother was something that I was definitely not expecting. I thought that the mother would have had a different reaction than what she gave for why she kinda forgot ...

Queen Takes Checkmate - Review

Image
This book was really good! The foot has been on the gas for Shara and the guys since the last book and things continue in this book. After getting everything sorted with the takeover of Sky house we then jump right into things with Ra. It was so interesting to see how things were about to play out. Even though there was some times that I thought that things weren't going to work out for the gang, the way it all played out was beautiful. I enjoyed seeing how independent some of the blood could be and how they were all able to work together despite not having the bonds that usually kept them in touch with each other. The trust that Shara had in them again was able to shine bright here. Not only that but their trust in her as well. Then there is also the trust that she has in the goddesses to steer her in the right direction. Looking at the growth that Shara has had from book 1 to now is amazing. She is confident and strong compared to how she started. This book definitely felt like ...

A Dirty Business - Review

Image
This book had our FMC, Jess, dealing with a dilemma that I think most of our dark romance loving girlies would have looked over. She has that darn moral compass going for her. She couldn't reconcile her morality with the profession that her man was doing so of course this led to things being dragged on for awhile while she fought her attraction to him and he to her. It like literally was 80% of the book. They were waffling the whole time with whether they were going to get together despite Jess being a PO and Trace being a criminal. This was kinda annoying for a bit. Though I will say that nothing probably annoyed me more than the randomness of some of the things that happened. It just felt like there was no real thing that the characters had to defeat to get together but rather there were many little things that popped up. Like the betrayal that happens to Jess near the end, her best friend moving out, deciding whether Trace was worth it despite her being a cop, Trace and his un...

End of the Month Wrap Up - November '24

Image
Another month has ended. This month along with the end of the previous month has been very heavy for me. It is definitely reflected in how many books I was able to read this month. I only was able to get to 7 books this month. A lot of them were re-reads and then the rest were either ARC reads or audible. I spent a lot of time with family since there was a major loss for me this season. I enjoyed the books that I did read and I don't think I DNF'd any books this month. Which is a return to my normal since I never used to DNF books. With that being said, lets look back at what I read this month: Favorite Character -   Shara (Queen Takes Rook):   I really loved Shara in this book! She was showing that she was prepared to do what is needed. We are able to see her put her trust in her men in action. She is able to stay cool and level headed between all the things that are thrown her way in this book. Then we also get the reveals with what New York actually means to her. It ...

Legacy of Chaos - ARC Review

Image
I really enjoyed reading this book! The way that this book just flowed made reading it such a pleasure! There didn't really seem to be any moment where anything that happened seemed out of place or irrelevant. It was such an enjoyable read that I just flew through it. I loved getting the chance to see this side of Stryke. After meeting him in the first book in this series, he was just a character that I really wanted to know more about. I always liked the Seminus demon storyline throughout the Demonica series and this one just added to it. The nerdy aspect of the relationship that Stryke has with Cyan was so cute! It really made me think of myself and I always love a relatable read! I might not be to his extreme, closer to Cyan when it comes to that but he was still entertaining. Also I always love getting a sneak peak at characters that we've come to know in love in other stories come back and give us a sneak look into their current lives. That's definitely something that...

At Grave's End - Review

Image
Another book in my re-read down!! I really enjoyed this book. There was so much power on display in this book that the stakes are just steadily getting larger. I was so glad that I had the opportunity to listen to the graphic audio for this one this time. Seeing how everything has been going since Bones was added to the crew with Cat was amazing! Not only that but there was action right out the gate! Things just kept escalating from the very beginning and never really slowed down. Then there was the fact that there was such a huge event that ended up happening. It was such an emotional moment that I just couldn't believe that it even happened. I was definitely right there with the character that was affected mainly by what was happening. I just couldn't believe this really happened. When it was resolved then I was so excited and happy. Then of course there was more pain that happens. I'm going to let everyone read how things happened and then you can all come cry with me i...

Bound by Obsession - ARC Review

Image
Well that was quite the twist at the end. I kinda was expecting it but not to the extent that we got it. Like there were a lot of reveals in this book. I really thought that I figured one of them out but the other one was a surprise. I'm going to let you marinate on which one of those it is until later. Come back and let me know in the comments which reveal was the most surprising to you. There is enough character development that happens that you kind of don't notice that things feel a little stagnant otherwise. Like, finally getting some confessions from some of the characters felt almost cathartic after everything that has been happening. Other than that though, the storyline of things doesn't really feel like it's moved alot. Which left you feeling almost like nothing really happened here. Frederick is still on the hunt for his daughter, they still have no idea how they are being found and lets add on top of that the mystery of why exactly Nixon did what he did. I...

Believe in Me - Review

Image
I liked this book but it definitely didn't hit for me like the first one did. There were moments where I was like...that's a cringe thing to say. Then the ending for me was just not it. I didn't like that Renee is a doctor who knows how to manage these types of situations she found herself in at the end of the book only to be acting a whole fool. It makes sense that she has never experienced this before but you'd think she'd be equipped with the tools she needed to handle things a little better. I felt like it was very out of character for her and I just kinda felt thrown out of the story. Other than that, I think this book really did a good job of displaying growth. Both of these characters had history's that kind of inhibited them from being the best that they could be and luckily with each other they were able to overcome them. Even though they had their rough patches, their love was strong enough to survive the mistakes that they both made. I really enjoyed...

Split - ARC Review

Image
Whew, I have to come down from the information dump that just happened in order to be able to actually type right now. My goodness! There is so much happening right now that it is actually kinda crazy! I'll give a brief synopsis on where we are with everyone Titus (hate), is on the move and bringing the war to fruition with the North. He has so many secrets that no one really knows everything. One thing we do know is that he is definitely a pawn for Mother. Mother (hate x2), OMG we know who she is now and her relation to known characters!! Of course we still don't know exactly what went down to get everyone and everything to where it is now. If everyone didn't know already, we have 1 million percent confirmation that certain characters have been around since the surge originally happened (big gasp). Kara, we are still in limbo with what is truly happening with her and the babies. I am on tenderhooks here waiting to see how this plays out. Our badass FMC is still doing the...

Queen Takes Rook - Review

Image
We are back again with Shara and the guys and this time she is gearing up to make her move against the Triune. Everything is not all grand with things with Mayte as Shara prepares to leave. She ends up encountering Ra's minions once again. Again Shara is able to prevail but not before she has to make a promise that brings her to tears to make. Even though she doesn't want to do it, for the good of everyone she knows she must. After finally returning home and getting a chance to hang out and recharge with her guys, she begins to make her big move. A lot of layers gets pulled back when she goes to New York to confront her first Queen. There are so many reveals here that if you weren't ready, you would almost get drowned in all the information that comes here. It was sad and yet satisfying to read. As a mother myself you can really feel for the characters during this sequence in the book. You would do just about any and everything for your child. Here we see that displayed in...

What Lies Within Masks and Shadows - Review

Image
This book was a struggle to get through. I really enjoyed what was going on with the story but it just felt like there was so many unnecessary pages that I had to slug through. The FMC continued to waffle and really made me want to shake her because ma'am the way that you were ok with something one second and now it's a problem is insane. I really wanted her to be able to get over the situation with her ex-fiance. I feel like there is something else at play there with how that situation is playing out. Another thing that was kind of meh for me, was the fact that Alora was said to have fighting skills and even after months fighting and training with the Dragons, she still seems like a damsel in distress when it comes to getting into fights. I feel like her and Garrick have the potential to be THE power couple. Though if she can't seem to fight without using her power though then what even is the point? She uses these skills against Garrick (even though she loses) yet she c...

End of the Month Wrap Up - October 2024

Image
It's time for me to Wrap Up October! It has been a crazy month and one that, while I'm glad that it's over, it will be one that I will never forget. I found a lot of new authors and I read some great stories that I didn't think I'd like! I was only able to read 6 books this month. I did have 2 that I ended up DNFing but I won't count them since I never finished them. So with that being said, let's see the books that survived my crazy October!      Top Baddie  - Reshe (Daughter of No World's) : Reshe was the type of baddie that is hard to fight because she is in you. She was not a physical entity that could be fought. On top of that there was the fact that she carried so many memories in her. Anything that you have thought to do to her has been done before. Anything that is that old would have resentment and she was full of it. Even though, the person who she had previously, she apparently developed "feelings" for (Max). It made things that muc...

Daughter of No World's - Review

Image
This book was probably better than I thought it was going to be. I really enjoyed the characters and the world that was built. It was very light on the romance but it definitely managed to shine through when needed. I also would like to add that it did feel like it kind of dragged at certain points in the story and I would have liked if some things were sped up a little. Other than that though things were nice. The story of Max and how he came to be how he was, was tragic. Of course that's the truth of some of the "heroes" of wars. I am interested in seeing how things continue in the next book. Not only with Max, but definitely with Tisannah and the order. I also want to say that I listened to this in it's audiobook form and this was it was um...interesting. You could hear everything with this audio. I mean everything. Every breath that the voice actors took, any noise in their background, page turns and everything. I have been spoiled with these full cast audios and...

Giving the Dragon Ice - Review

Image
This book was....different. It was definitely not what I thought it was going to be. Usually when there is a shifters they still have humanish babies. Well when they were discussing it in this book they definitely laid eggs. I wanted to delve further into this. I was very intrigued. Does the shifter lay the egg in dragon form? Does she stay in dragon form for the majority of the time until she has the egg? Is there multiple eggs or just one. I know that from reading the story that she definitely didn't stay in dragon form despite an egg growing in her body so I want to know the science behind that. Also there apparently is only one egg? So I guess it kinda follows human biology there? This was probably the most interesting part of this story for me. I was slightly obsessed with figuring this out. On the other hand the rest of the story had quite a few hic cups for me. Like the fact that they made the race thing weird. I know people hate discussing this but as someone who this aff...

God of Wrath - Review

Image
This book definitely brought me back into this series! I enjoyed the dynamic between Cecily and Jeremy. They definitely seemed like they were very well matched here! You could feel their chemistry. I love it when you can actually tell that the characters really seem to belong together. Another thing that I have really, really liked about this series is how it is truly interconnected. Like things are happening simultaneously within the series. So we get to see events that we watched happen in other series through the eyes of these characters now that they are telling their story. I wish that more interconnected series were like these. For the most part other interconnected series are just that they are in the same world with characters that we've already met. So, we see the party, the initiation of the Heathens and everything through the eyes of Cecily and Jeremy. The only part that I wish that we got to see through them was the events that surrounded Creighton and Annika in the pr...

Broken Whispers - Review

Image
This book was just what I needed to take me out of my reading funk! I burned through this book in what 2 days...maybe 1. This book was such an interesting read! It truly was almost like beauty and the beast! I would definitely say that this book was a little sweeter than I thought it was going to be. Mikhail and Bianca had such a beautiful story and just meshed together very well They both had scars that the two of them had to get over for the other. For Mikhail is was the scaring to his body and for Bianca it was the let down of no longer to do what she loved, ballet. I was also very glad that the FMC did not shy away from the life that the MMC led. Instead of trying to change him and make him better, she accepted that this is  the life that they are going to lead and she just needed to make sure that her man was taken care of and felt loved. I find myself kind of rebelling against the idea that these women are meant to change these men who have led these dark lives for all ...

One Foot In the Grave - Review

Image
This book has been a school on female badassery!! I mean Cat was out here serving it to whoever was out there trying to dish it. It was nice seeing her take on people without Bones. It gives us a solid view on her strength and how much of a threat her uniqueness is. While I loved their time apart, them getting back together was that much better! I loved seeing how much they both cared about each other and almost seemed to not miss a beat despite being apart for years. Knowing how strong they are apart just let's you know how much of a force they will be together! Not to mention that ending?! It almost feels like I'm reading this for the first time! I forgot that's how things became official!! This reread journey has been great and I can't wait to dive back into these two!! Its really hard to judge the spice in this audiobook and I can't remember what it was when I actually read it but at this moment I give it a 3. Overall I give this a 4 out of 5. I enjo...

Captured Fate - Review

Image
I was so excited to get back into this series! Only for it to let me down. I was not excited about anything that was going on. This book just felt over all depressing. Like there are dark reads but then there is this. I think there is the darkness on top of the fact that things were paced very slowly that just ended up making this entire book feel like a snoozefest. There was nothing really memorable about what happened and almost all of the new characters that we end up meeting feel kind of expendable. The whole rinse wash and repeat feel of the events that are happening just wash things out. We do get to meet Griffin who we all thought was dead up until the last book but really....his return didn't make things in this book any more...exciting. You'd think that it would since he was such a polarizing character throughout the first few books in this series but alas....no. The fact that we are back with the Guardians again is just meh and even though there is another evil by t...

Bewitched - Review

Image
I can't believe I waited this long to indulge in this world!! I was thinking this was going to be more YA for some reason. Oh no...this is no where near that!! I really enjoyed Memnon and Selene. I loved their interaction with each other and how quirky Selene is. Of course I also loved how crazily obsessed Memnon is with Selene. I can't wait for them to get together even though Memnon is a tad on the crazy side. He's entirely part of the touch her and die gang. Like literally, he'd annihilate everyone. This should definitely be interesting to see why things are the way the are in the next book!! I have no negatives for this book.      The spice is giving slow burn. I am ready to explode. I have to give it a 3 because there was literally nothing between the characters but you feel it. You just know it's going to be amazing once it happens and man.....I can't wait. I give this book a 5 overall! I really loved it. The way the magic system is and the mys...

Here we go! It's the end of the month again. I feel like I blinked and the month was over!! I read some pretty amazing books in this month!
