Lady of Shadows - Review

Well, I am effectively waist deep in this series. There is so much to talk about here after reading this book. I really wanted Scarlett to have some more agency in this book and we definitely got her being more active instead of being a victim. I really loved seeing her step into more of her power. This almost caused the dynamic to change between her and Soren. There is so much growth left for her to go through that I can't wait to read the rest of this series. I liked that we get to know more about the other people in that we've already met and care for. Though the other POV's are very interesting....I didn't really expect for us to get Callen's perspective so much. I definitely envision him being a problem later. The whole scorned lover thing is crazy to me. I guess I can understand that he cared about her but when someone has moved on from you, it's a little insane to hang on to them as tightly as he is. I feel like she gave him a great explanation for why things are the way they are and he just doesn't want to accept it. Hopefully his guards can help him to move on or something. The other Queen even was able to get a perspective! I can't wait to see how things play out. The ending of this book had my mouth hanging open!

We finally get some spice in this book! Soren and Scarlett finally get together and I love that for them and us. It was definitely a nice scene but not one that was super descriptive or took up a lot of time. We also got some spice from some of the other characters whose POVs we get. That was unexpected. I still don't know how I feel about this character so getting that scene was surprising. I give it a 3 out 5 on the spice scale. Overall, I give this book a 3 out of 5. I liked the direction that things are going, I will say it is a little slower than I would like. I almost started to feel like I was just listening to the book as background noise and would tune in when things got interesting (like with the ending). I feel like there are some clues that are being dropped but since it's wrapped up in so much other stuff, it can feel a little snoozey at times. I did listen to this over the course of 2 days so I still think it's enough to hold your attention and have you like it but don't be surprised if you find yourself checking out at points. I also was a little disappointed in some of the decisions that Scarlett decided to make. I know she is used to almost having to make decisions on her own but she used to be part of a trio and I feel like she knew to depend on them to do certain things that she needed done. Now that she's committed herself to this new life that she has discovered, you'd think that she would be able to do the same, with at least the person who she literally married and tied her soul to. Anyway, that's a slight spoiler but that was something that brought me down a little. I'd still recommend this book as a continuance of the story. We get a lot of info in this one so hold on tight!
