Terror at the Gates - Review

Image
This was a different read that's for sure. I'm still on the fence for how I feel about it. Lilith shows all the characteristics of a privileged person who just so happens to be living poorly. The arrogance she shows when dealing with almost every situation is funny up until you realize she doesn't have the skills or backbone to back it up. She hates the establishment but still uses the benefits. The amount of times she cries was almost a record in a book honestly. The only time I felt it was warranted really she didn't actually cry.... that much. The other times was annoying. Her as a character was annoying actually.  Zahareiv seeing her as more than a petulant child was interesting. I hope in the next book she is better as a character. Other than that, the actual story of what is going is interesting. The gates, the prophecy, the patriarchal society that has to depend on the women they subjugate for power.... very interesting. I want more and less of Lilith...

Broken by the Horde King - Review

Image
I loved getting a chance to meet a human who grew up amongst the Dakkari. I knew it had to have happened at some point. The story of Kiran and Maeva was a beautiful story. How the person who was meant for you could be in front of you this whole time but due to that blindness you could also miss them. It also taught of timing. Sometimes you can have the right person but at the wrong time. They may have grown up together but because the timing wasn't right they did not end up together. Once they were older, only then were they both ready to accept each other and appreciate what they individually had to offer. I almost find the latter books to be some of the best in this series. It's getting harder to pick a favorite!!  The spice in this book was nice but it didnt hit like some of the other books did which was strange. I was waiting for these two to finally get together but it was just ok. I'd give it a 3 out of 5 for the spice. Overall I really enjoyed the story b...

Beautiful Chaos - Review

Image
I actually, am quite speechless. I had to wait awhile before I wrote this review because I don't know how I managed to pick this one up and devoured it like I did but wow....that's all I have. I will be doing a video spoiler review because that's literally the only way I can think of to do a review without it being like 6 pages long. Most of what happens in this book can't even be talked about without spoiling. Just know that this is one of those books where if you have triggers with some themes in dark romance, then you might now even want to pick this up. This was dark but I liked it. I kinda guessed some things but others caught me by surprise. You have to see this one through if you start reading this. You can't let something like what you THINK is happening stop you from continuing. I definitely am adding this author to the ones I need to read their backlog...but I'll have to space it out because this right HERE? Whew. In other words I definitely recommen...

The Wolf King's Mate - Review

Image
This was an interesting read! A different take on how the shifter world is set up. There are only male shifters except of course for our FMC, Aspen. I liked the way everything flowed in this book. I did wish that we got more time to see the relationship develop in the story. Things moved rather quickly once they met and they seemed to have a lot of external issues that they had to deal with that had more of the focus than them getting to know each other better. There definitely is some building in this but a little more would have made this a 5 star read for sure. Everything was hitting with this book. I didn't really have any moments where I felt annoyed by anything that the characters were doing and saying. Everything worked with how the world was set up and how the characters seemed to interact with each other. I really enjoyed it. I literally devoured this in one day. The audible was really good and the male narrator was amazing. I almost wanted more chapters from Enzo just t...

It Ruins Me - Review

Image
I'm not gonna lie to you....this book frustrated me to no end. Scarlet has been a thorn in my side since the end of book 1. Like....I guess this is how people are able to be easily manipulated but this book really just upset me to another level. Firstly, Scarlet was raised in this life by her father and at no point did she think that she shouldn't be there. She always seemed to fight to be the best and want it. So you would think that she would know a little about fighting and the dangers that would come in this world. Not to mention how men tended to barter women around like they are currency. So the fact that she was completely blind for 3 whole books just about, to her fathers machinations was a little wild to me. Like no one said anything to her, she didn't have a mind of her own to come to this conclusion and it was just anger inducing. Then to add fuel to the fire she then, in this book, is like, oh no, I came too close to death, I want out. Likeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, y...

Rowe - Review

Image
There is just something about the primal vibes in books like these that just really hits all the right buttons for me! I really liked this book. Rowe and Kate definitely had some language barriers that they slowly had to overcome but they managed to do it and have a very interesting relationship. It was different to see that the author says that these people are just like us but still a little different. Which we see in their body make up. I liked that there was a culture that was shown and that they weren't just painted as these neanderthal types who were just out there doing the back to nature thing. These were a people who were relatively untouched by the outside world. It wasn't just this group either there was more. I would love to know what has happened with the rest of the friends in Kate's group. Why was the search party not looking for Lisa? Was her body found or did they manage to find her and get her out. It would suck if she was the only one not to make it. I w...

Madness of the Horde King - Review

Image
This was a good read!! This book delves into a lot of trauma so make sure that you check your triggers before reading. This book was a lot darker than the others when you delve into what happened to the characters that make them what and who they are. It was so sad yet you can see how it influenced their everyday decisions. It's always the biggest and scariest of characters that have the softest of hearts. We definitely see that with Davik and I really liked seeing the depth of it because this man experienced a lot. He definitely could have ended up being a villain but luckily had some good influences in his life that made him the best man and leader. We got to meet some of the Vorrakar from previous books which was cool. I almost wished we got to see full interactions with the couples but its mainly the MMCs we see. I liked that we were introduced to powers and things outside of normal Horde life. It adds a new dynamic to this series that I hope gets explored more.  Th...

King of Depravity - Review

Image
I enjoyed reading this book. Killian and Chloe were one of those couples that just fell into each other. They didn't let any type of doubt really stop them from being together. I really love when I get a chance to read stories like this. Sometimes, I really dislike slow burns because it is mainly the characters fighting their feelings for each other and using anything as a reason for why they can't be together. These two however, do not let anything like that stop them. The issues they face are mainly external or the ones that were internal, were their traumas. I liked that they were both understanding and were able to work around that trauma with each other. I noticed however, that I picked the wrong series to start in this world. I will definitely jump into the story of the Kincaid brothers and then jump back into the Smiths.  The spice in this book was very nice. I liked getting to see these two overcome their issues surrounding intimacy. 4 out of 5 for the spice. Overall,...

The Curse That Binds - Review

Image
This was a really, really good read. I enjoyed it so much even though I knew what was going to happen when we got to the end. The journey of Memnon and Roxilana was still just as good. The heart break that our characters suffer and the romance that they find is on another level. We get to see where Roxilana came from and how she met Memnon. I didn't think that we would hear about his family but it was indeed just as amazing.  And just as sad when we lost them. We see how Memnon went from being a normal man to what we see when we meet him in the first book. I can't wait to see how this goes in the third and final book in this story. I really can't stand the fae that we had the misfortune of meeting and I hope that she gets her just deserts! This was another great entry in the series by this author and I haven't had a miss from her yet! The spice in this book was really good and very spicy. I would give it a 4 out of 5. Almost a 5 out of 5. I chemistry between these two...

Ondine Vol. 2

Image
I don't think I've liked a book that has felt all over the place like this one. Everything about this book is very interesting. I mean from Freddie and his caring for the other boys who are like him to Sabbies and his home-maker style to Shadow and his dark side, Jake with his bossiness and need to dominate to finally Arnie and his voyeur kinkiness. All of these guys bring a little something to the plate. I really enjoyed getting to know them and Ondine. This world is so interesting and I can't wait to read the inbetween books and then hopping into Mads. These characters will make you care about them, whether it is love or hate. I love that they were able to become a full pack for Ondine and that she finally gave into herself and became what she was always meant to be.  The spice in this book was out of this world. Everything you would love about a why choose is in this book. There is MM, DVP, DP, threesome, foursome, everybody some. If I could give this book a rating hig...

Stolen Touches - Review

Image
This was a good read. These two don't stick out as much as some of the other couples but they were still very unique. Salvatore is definitely a one of a kind MMC. As always these characters have flaws that others would look twice at, with Salvatore, it's his injuries that he survived. It definitely does not make him less of a man. If anything he was that much more savage due to his obvious injuries. Then we have Milene, who is trying to run away from everything mafia only to end up with one of the top guys. She seems to have a habit of picking up broken things. She gravitates towards Salvatore before she even knew who he was and I loved that for them both. The side characters here are pretty much non existent other than Salvatore's mother. We spend most of our time completely focused on them and what they have going on. The main thing that I can say about them both is that they are eccentric. It seems that because they both lay into the extremes of those eccentrics they a...

Bratva Bride - Review

Image
I don't really know how to rate this book because there was things that I liked and things that I didn't. So the main thing that I didn't like, is how childish some of the characters were. I understand trying to make them seem carefree and the opposite of what you would think a hardened mafia person would be. I just think that this went a little too far in the other direction. The way that the characters bickered and did the whole "no you" back and forth thing was kinda...much. It happened all the time. No one had a different dynamic with any of the other characters other than Illyana and Aleksandr. Their father too. No one else seemed like an adult..until the author wanted them act like an adult...which was weird. Now the things I did like, I loved how bad ass Illyana was. I liked that her and Arturo didn't really have any back and forth between each other about whether or not they wanted to be together. They trusted themselves and allowed that trust and feel...

Dawn of the Cursed Queen - Review

Image
Wow, what a ride that was! I have no words for what I just read. I mean...I guess I'll start with all the different POVs. This was definitely a change from the previous books. Of course we needed all of them to get a slight handle on all the moving parts that is going. The realms are changing and there is so much going on that it's insane just how much. Of course everything was triggered by Dianna and Samkiel. The things that ends up happening to them and the overwhelming amount of power they have as well as the power that they have yet to unveil. We can even talk about the blossoming romance amongst so many different characters. I can kinda see where some things are going but others are still a little murky. That ending though! Oh my goodness. Again there is a lot happening and I have no idea what is going to happen with the craziness that happened at the end of this book. Whew. I can't wait for other things to fall into place and for us to have the gang back together ag...

Vamps & Vendettas - ARC Review

Image
I really enjoyed the story of Ophelia and Gideon! Their story was so entertaining! From the banter between Ophelia and Jenna to the look a like games with Chase and Gideon. It has been so fun being back here and getting more info on the node and the world that we inhabit. This time its vamps! And man is the story of Ophelia and Gideon a little sad. I felt for her throughout the entire book. From learning her history with the vampires to the fact that Gideon has thought she ditched him and is probably been dead all this time. BUT I loved that they were able to put that behind them pretty fast and realize that there was definitely other things at play! I loved getting to hang with everyone again and even see the dragon!! Oh things in Havers-by-the-Sea continues to get so much more interesting!  The spice in this book is relatively low. I would probably give it a 3 out of 5 simply because it was there and it was open door. I was hoping to get more from these two but alas they h...

Hans - Review

Image
Well, that's it for the Alliance boys. I am sad to see them all go. This one was probably not my favorite from the series but it is still a good read. Hans and Cassie were an interesting couple. They both had the perfect type of unhinged for each other! I loved how possessive Hans was over every little thing about her. She was just as possessive over him too! Not to mention we get to see her have some back bone! Hans' story itself was so emotional and one that really grabbed you. I think his was the one of the sadder stories of how he got to be how he is now. He almost reminded me of one of my other favorite unhinged men (Zade). I liked how he managed to fit right in with the alliance men and had an all female army at his side. The fact that him and Nero become buddies due to their craziness was nice as well. The katana fights were also a very nice touch. I almost wanted a little more on Hans background considering how smart he is.  The spice in this book was nice! These two ...

Ondine Vol 1 - Review

Image
Wow, that was a crazy ending. This book was interesting almost from the very beginning. I really liked the characters and how this author really leaned into the dynamics. The fact that there is an intense rivalry between some of the families in regards to how the omegas are treated and who can get them was also another very interesting part. It was definitely different to see how much the omegas are looked down upon by the betas. It almost feels like a jealousy type of deal and that was interesting aspect as well. The main alphas that we are following in this story are definitely floundering on how to treat their omega. There are so many behind the scenes things going on that I really can't wait for them to be resolved. The issues with Shadow and Jake and then Sebastian feeling like an inbetween person in everything made for a very interesting story. I really can't wait to see how things are resolved after how things ended. I want so much for Ondine to end up with the Meier p...

The Honor of Being Hers - Review

Image
I'm on the fence with my feelings on this book. I really love omegaverse books. The main thing that I like them for is for the darker aspects that it can bring and for the men who are just outright dominant and aggressive. Like this is where I go when I want the male characters to really be dominant in the relationship and the dub con situations come out to play as part of the overall part of the book. That was not the case with this book. This book seems to want to take a different approach with omegaverse that I didn't really like. The alphas didn't feel like alphas to me. I was fine with Lauren being the way she was but the others just weren't aggressive enough for me. They didn't assert themselves enough. Heck half the time I only remembered two of the alphas. I think that was another slight that I had with this book. The characters weren't memorable. I think I know more about Lauren's friends than I know about the men that she ended up with. William was...

End of the Month Wrap-Up -February 26

Image
This month went by fairly quickly. I feel like I've been saying that for the past few months but all of them seem to be speeding by before I can really get comfortable with the it. This month was filled with reads from black authors and I really loved it. I do wish that there was more available as audiobooks and more fantasy/PNR!! The contemporary reads that I read though...were amazing. There are definitely some new to me authors that I am adding to my list of authors that I need to read more from. Getting to throw an authors entire backlog on my TBR list is a pleasure! This month I was able to get through 13 books and it was such an enjoyable journey for the most part. I can't wait to read more from these authors. I've got the usual superlatives but this month was hard to choose on a few of them so I have some honorable mentions. With that being said, let's see what all I've read this month! Favorite Character  - Angel (Escorting the Yakuza): I always love a stro...

Living Legend - Review

Image
This was a good read. I always enjoy a badass FMC who can kick butt when she needs to. I find this Angel & Demon dynamic to always make for a very interesting read. The characters make this book fun and keep you coming back for more. The intrigue around who was working with Lilith was also something that had me guessing and I liked that it wasn't something that you really knew for sure until the end. I had my thoughts and it turned out to be right but it never really showed itself until the end. Some things I wish was done a little better is the relationship between Nick and Dani.We see Dani flirting with Nick a lot and then we see them getting together and not being able to take their hands off each other but like...I wanted to see them have to spend more time together so we could watch Nick start to turn more towards her. I'm hoping to see more of that in book 2.  The spice in this book was really good. Nick and Dani brought the heat for sure once they finally gave in to ...

Without A Witness - ARC Review

Image
I liked this book more than I liked the first one! I didn't think I would like a softer story but this one was definitely that. It picks up some of the things that we saw from the first book and takes us to Leticia and Royal's POV. Then we advance with their story and how things are able to work out for the rest of them. I am definitely hoping to get a story for Berto at this point. I almost feel like he's the misunderstood brother who isn't as bad as he seems. Back to our current couple though, I really liked getting to know more about Royal and him being Pan made so much sense. I loved how open and honest he was with his feelings and his wants. I liked how Leticia was pretty much the same way. The way that their romance seemed almost conflict free for the two of them was such a breath of fresh air. Like I just really liked reading this. The issues came from outside instead of the two of them having miscommunications and other crazy stuff with each other. Their relati...

Stalked by Seduction and Shadows - Review

Image
Well, I was ready to be upset with this book but it ended up being better than I expected. I was hoping so much that Rune wasn't going to fall into the trap and make me angry with him. He kinda did anyway...then he didn't even rush to rectify the situation. I am giving him major side eyes and he's gonna have to do some groveling for our girl because she deserves it! I didn't expect for this book to be so freaking HOT. I mean, it's probably because I listened to the audio version but MY GAWD. I was just...whew....I was beyond ready for these two to finally admit how they felt for each other. Even if Rune was a stalky mcstalkerson. I definitely really like this duet narration. The story itself is good and I really want to see how things are going to progress in the next book. The growth that I'm expecting for Scarlet, the war between the vampire factions and Rune finally admitting that he loves Scarlet! This could easily become one of my favorite duets if this s...

As You Are (Part 1) - Review

Image
This book is so interesting! I really liked Sade and how she is so confident! She is truly a force to be reckoned with! Learning her story through Gustavo was so sad but it made sense for why she is so strong. She is definitely one of the darker FMCs that I have read. Then we also get to know Valentino and both of them are forces to be reckoned with. Watching them do the dance with each other was fun. This book was too short for me! I wanted more!! So much more! I can't wait to jump into the next book.  There wasn't really any spice in this book. I just know that it's going to be amazing once we do get it. So no spice rating for this one. Overall, I really liked this book! It was such a good tease and the characters are memorable and I can't wait to read more. If you enjoy dark romance reads with strong FMCs then this is for you!

A Kingdom of Blood and Fate - ARC Review

Image
This was an interesting story. I was definitely hooked from the beginning. This focuses on Caz, Caspian and Bri. I definitely had a different idea of how things were going to go and they went a complete opposite way. Not a bad way just a different way. I enjoyed getting to know Bri and Caspian in this book. Even though it ends up being a weird why choose situation (you'll have to read it to find out) we really spend most of the time with Caspian and Bri. We get some time with Caz but since Bri has already had so much life experience with him prior to us meeting him, most of the time is spent getting to know Caspian. I definitely really liked Caspian. Though I almost wanted to see more of the ruthlessness in him. What makes his siblings respect him other than the fact that he's the oldest? Of course we do get to see a ruthless side of him when it came to dealing with anything with Bri. I liked the world that was created in this story with the two halves of one soul and how the ...

Our Vicious Oaths - Review

Image
I have no idea how to feel after listening to this book. I am extremely conflicted. I feel the same way I felt after reading another book from last year. I wanted to DNF but at the same time I couldn't look away from the crash that I was witnessing. So this will have spoilers, I usually try to stay away from them in reviews but I also feel like I can't accurately describe my feelings of what I listened to without them. So first lets start with my feelings towards Kadeesha. I liked her in the beginning but she just felt very lackluster. Like she tells us how strong she is and what-not but I didn't believe her. There was no instance where she proved exactly what she said and what we were being told. At every instance she was being shown to be weaker than those that she was around. So I'm left with thinking that she is average and has this over inflated sense of power for herself. She also didn't even seem to really like Malachi. Yeah they had some great smex together...

Elevator Pitch - Review

Image
This was another amazing read for this month! Wow, this book deals with all kinds of trauma and recovery. It's not like super heavy trauma but it is enough that a lot of people could probably see themselves through the eyes of the main characters. It's really the little things in life that we go through that can cause trauma that we don't even know about or are ready to realize that we need to heal from. I loved getting to see Selah as she navigated trying to do things that are outside of her comfort zone so that she could become the new person that she wanted to be. She embraced the hard conversations and was ready for a new beginning. Even if that beginning ended up scaring her in the long wrong. Then we also meet Grayson, who is also navigating trauma. He doesn't even realize that he is until he meets Selah and learns that he too needed help healing from the damage of a past relationship. I loved meeting the side characters in this book as well! Everyone was so funn...

Escorting the Yakuza - Review

Image
I really enjoyed this book! I feel like we had a lot more issues to deal with in this one than we did in the first one. I liked how much deeper it felt like the author went with these characters and how their dynamics worked. They had a lot to deal with between Shinji and Angel (her name by the end of the book). From Angel's severe trauma to Shinji's secret, there was a lot going on for the crew. I really liked getting to know more about each of them. We got to love them as individual characters as well as love them together. Even though we joined in on Shinji and Takeshi after they were together, none of that mattered because we got to see glimpses of how they got together. I always love getting a chance to see characters that we have met in the previous books whenever it's a series. Even if it's just short glimpses of them as they interact with each other. With this one that was still the case, even though we didn't really get to see much of Portia. It would have...

Taming Kane - Review

Image
Since this review will not be posted to my socials, this will have spoilers. I did not really like this book. It was doing too much yet not enough at the same time. It felt like things were just happening and everyone was ok with it. Like, there was no chance to take anything in, everyone just accepted everything. Then there was agreements over silly things. It felt to me like the author hadn't really read any other shifter type novels before they wrote this one. Maybe this is their first shifter novel? For example, Kane felt very disconnected from his wolf. I have read books where the wolf and the man are separate entities living in one body with almost one mind, as well as books where they couldn't separate the two mentally from each other. When Kane allowed his wolf out to play with Tammy, it just felt like he was out of control and she was truly around a wild wolf. Not to mention her reaction was....interesting. I mean she yelled at the wolf. A lot of her reactions were......

How to Fail at Avoiding an Alpha Demon - Review

Image
I had a great time reading this book. Even though things moved a little fast, it didn't feel like things were developing without cause. We had enough time to sit with the developments and move on. This omegaverse read was a little different to what I was used to. With Devin almost giving cinnamon roll vibes instead of alpha vibes. There was a lot more wiggle room in their relationship than I was expecting. I did like the difference sometimes. I enjoyed getting to know this world and the people in it. Even though there was discrimination and all that happening to the demons in this world, it is still fantastical. I loved that there are dynamics in this world along with the different supernatural creatures that we already know and love. The characters were engaging and had a little something that I think a lot of readers would like. Again the side characters were even good! I really hope we get something with Kent!  The spice in this book was nice. I enjoyed seeing Devin and Sh...

Chosen - Review

Image
This was interesting. I liked the story and how things were explained for the world. However, there were some small inconsistencies that bothered me. Were all the old people who were disappearing shifters? If they were, why the heck were they in a nursing home? The way the world is set up would lead you to believe that the shifters sighs never allow this type of thing to happen with their elders. If they weren't then what the heck was the point of them being experimented on? My guy got upset about one group of shifters killing his family and was like... yeah no one deserves to be a shifter. I just don't see how he expected this to play out. The betrayer.... like... he kinda had a valid reason I guess but also.... what the heck was the end game here? Now you're in jail for what??? Lost everything you hold dear for what?? What was the reason?? Idk i just don't think a lot of things was thought through entirely by some of the characters. I still liked this book enough that...

Maid for the Yakuza - Review

Image
This book showcased something that we as woman would love from our men...emotional intelligence. Katsuo is a really good man and even though he still made mistakes he was willing to accept and love everything about Portia. He helped her to rediscover a part of her that she almost forgot existed. There wasn't many times that I had an issue with the things that he did. Even when Portia had a problem, I was willing to overlook it because he was so amazing. I will say I was a little surprised by what happened at the end of this book. I did not suspect that at all. My only thing with Katsuo was that he was very much kill happy. Someone got in his way, it was time to kill them. I did like that everyone was accepting of not only Portia being black but also her kids and Takeshi. I thought there would be more issues brought up than there was but it all just...worked out.  The spice in this book was plentiful and good. Portia and Katsuo kept it spicy for us. Definitely a 4 out of...

End of the Month Wrap Up - January 26

Image
I can't believe January is already over! It seemed like it breezed by, we were just celebrating the holidays and here we are, in February already. Since this is the first wrap up for this year, I want to use this time to state what I want from this year in my book world. A resolution of sorts. I want to get you guys this wrap up as soon as I can. I usually end up holding back on it since sometimes I am reading something that I want to finish and hope to get done before the month ends. So you'll probably never get this on the first of the new month but more so around this time of the month. Hopefully, I won't have to double up like I did with some of them last year. I also want to get the video wrap ups out and done around the same time or at least, before the middle of the month. I am working on getting better with editing so we will see how that works. This year, I am hoping to read 100 books again! So far, we are starting out on fire! This month I managed to read 16 books...
